The Mummy (2017)

The Mummy (2017) >>>

Nick returns to life in a morgue. Chris' ghost appears and tells him he has been cursed by Ahmanet who seeks to use him as a vessel for Set. Ahmanet's mummy escapes from the sarcophagus and begins feeding on people to regenerate her body, turning them into zombies. She recovers the Dagger of Set and attempts to stab Nick, before realizing that the ruby is not attached to it. She and her army chase after Nick and Jenny until soldiers appear and subdue her.

Nerd (vo): The mummy this time is not Imhotep, but rather Princess Ahmanet, which is a welcome change. Before, all we had was (pictures of...) the Bride of Frankenstein and maybe Dracula's daugther. (The male classic Universal monsters are shown) It was kind of a sausage fest, you know. In most incarnations of the story, there's usually a mummy princess. This is just putting the mummy princess in the spotlight, making her the main monster. She has her own unique style and would look cool in a lineup of other monsters, so this is not a bad starting point.

NC (vo): They take possession of the tomb and bring it to their base... Is there really no better way to transport that? But apparently, Cruise's friend gets possessed by the mummy and starts killing people.

Nerd (vo): Tom Cruise, his friend, and these zombie cops all seem to be under different types of possessions. It makes it harder to get an idea how this mummy works or even what to be afraid of.

Nerd (vo): This is the middle of the film, which would normally be where all the exposition goes, but we've already had so much exposition already. We're tired out! Even the mummy herself starts telling us stories as the same scattered flashbacks play.

Nerd (vo): Isn't this kind of a redundant idea with Cruise's character? What even is Cruise now? He's not any of the classic monsters. Is he the new mummy? Is the other mummy dead? Why should I be excited for any of this? You couldn't even tease the future movies right! And this movie's sole purpose is to tease other movies!

Universal Studios Home Entertainment brings The Mummy (2017) to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as a two-disc combo pack with an UltraViolet Digital Copy code. When redeeming said code via, only the SD and HDX (1080p) are available through a variety of retailers. The dual-layered UHD66 and Region Free, BD50 discs sit comfortably on opposing panels inside a black, eco-vortex case with a glossy, embossed slipcover. At startup, the disc goes straight to a menu screen with full-motion clips and music.

Between being entombed alive and losing the gender lottery, Ahmanet is full of girl-done-wrong anger and is ready to unleash it on the modern world. Sucking the life out of anyone who comes too close, she soon cuts the apron strings to her mummy-past and begins a mission toward becoming an eternal god. But first, in typical movie plot tradition, she must collect a couple of key objects: A dagger and a red jewel that sits atop the hilt of the weapon. With these in place, her reign of angst for the eternities will be made certain.

The mummy Ahmanet is depicted as irredeemable because of her desire for power. What other characters in the movie want control as well? Why are we more sympathetic to their plights or reasons for wanting power?

In THE MUMMY, Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and Chris Vail (Jake Johnson) are military recon men who use their positions to hunt treasure in the Middle East and sell it on the black market. During one explosive mission, they discover an Egyptian tomb with a most unusual sarcophagus inside, heavily protected by a pool of mercury. Archeologist Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) and the two men liberate it. But a sandstorm arises, and a flock of birds smashes into their plane. Nick wakes up, miraculously alive but now cursed. He's now the "chosen one" of the mummy, a banished princess called Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella). She's bent on obtaining a special knife and gemstone to carry out a terrifying ritual, at the possible cost of Nick's life. Only Dr
